Helsinki - more than 200 years of delight

Nothing is quite like Helsinki, especially during the beautiful Finnish summer days. Home to a humble number of more than 650,000 citizens, the small yet vibrant capital keeps people coming with its ample of interesting destinations, which also helped it earn the title of the World’s Design Capital in 2012. Visit Hotel Kämp’s recommendations below to fully enjoy Helsinki at its finest.

The heart of Helsinki

Right across the street from Hotel Kämp, the sunny weather favors the Esplanade Park, locally known as “Espa”, with shades of green and benches of blossoming flowers. Take a stroll along the lovely park and indulge in the festive atmosphere from the iconic Kämp Bar and other nearby restaurants and cafes. Within the same vicinity, the prestigious central location of Hotel Kämp provides the most convenient access to many modern and well-appointed stores, from Marimekko and Stockmann to Kämp Galleria and Louis Vuitton, catering for different needs of visitors.

While walking towards the end of Espa, the salty scent of the sea becomes more vivid, indicating that the South Harbor is very close by. Wander around the Market Square in the area for the finest amenities and ingredients in town or have a boat ride to the antique sea fortress Suomenlinna for a unique sunset experience by the shore. If there is still time, admire the sophisticated architecture of the largest Orthodox church in Europe - the Uspenski Cathedral, and call it a day at Brasserie Kämp open terrace restaurant for a delicious meal.

The other end of the Esplanade Park paves the way to Oodi Library - Finland’s grandiose birthday present for its people. Behind the imposing wavy rooftop is a world of knowledge and technology waiting to be explored. Located a few hundred meters away from the library, the famous Kamppi Chapel of Silence is the sanctuary of quiescence amidst the lively city center, being one of the must-sees when visiting Helsinki. If the weather is still warm, embrace the sun at Lasipalatsi’s (“The Glass Palace”) unique architecture and witness the intersection of the past, present, and future at one of many art exhibitions in Amos Rex.
